New Year’s Day swims have taken place in Co Down and Co Antrim as some brave enough to jump into the freezing water made sure to dress for the occasion.

Young and old turned out for the big event at Carnlough Harbour to raise money for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus.

Elsewhere, hundreds made the effort to brave the cold waters at Crawfordsburn Beach to raise some much needed funds for Cancer Focus NI.

The Dare to Dip challenge saw the crowds line the beach before the mass dip at midday.

Some of those involved decided to wear swimsuits, wet suits or Cancer Focus t-shirts but others made the effort of donning fancy dress.

One swimmer dressed as a shark as the RNLI watched on to make sure everyone completed the swim safely.

Charlie Smith, who was dressed as Harry Potter, was joined by Jo Feaver in her ship captain costume, while Adrian McGurnaghan made sure to use the last of the Christmas tinsel in his cowboy hat ensemble.
