Glenavon FC has led tributes to former chairman Adrian Teer whom the club said provided “inspired leadership”.
In a social media post the club said it is with “great sadness” that Glenavon must announce the passing of its former Chairman Adrian Teer.
Mr Teer stepped down as chairman at the end of last season and had been ill for some time.
“Adrian will be remembered as one of the longest serving and most influential administrators in the club’s 135-year history,” a club statement read.
“He was a Director for nearly 40 years, Managing Director for two years and Chairman for almost 27 years.
“During his time on the Board, Glenavon challenged strongly for the League Championship, won four Irish Cups and every other trophy.
“He oversaw the transformation of Mourneview Park into the magnificent stadium it is today.”
It added: “He also provided inspired leadership within the Irish Football Association, the old Irish Football League and the Northern Ireland Football League.
“During almost 70 years supporting Glenavon he rarely missed a game.
“He gave his all in the service of the club he loved and the sport he adored.
“Sincere condolences are extended to his family and friends.”
Many fans have offered their condolences.
Hubert Watson said: “We have lost a real gentleman tonight and I was privileged to serve as his vice chairman for five wonderful years and learnt how to administer a football club from him.
“NI Football has lost a great leader tonight.”
A fan said: “What an absolute gentleman Adrian was. Mr Glenavon for many, many years.
“Put his heart and soul into the club through the good and bad times. Very knowledgeable, and always had time to talk, and really fought Glenavon’s corner in amongst the bigger clubs.
“You’ll be sadly missed. Rest easy, Adrian.”
