Gavin and Stacey: The Finale received incredible ratings, and was praised by fans of the show for providing the perfect ending. Yet, despite the show’s final return providing closure, and resolving the cliff hanger audiences were left on back in 2019, that hasn’t stopped viewers from pointing out a mistake in the episode.

Viewers were quick to notice an error during a scene featuring Smithy’s stag. Specifically during Mick Shipman’s heartfelt speech to Smithy, describing him as a second son, after he and his wife Pam struggled to conceive another child after Gavin.

However, it was pointed out by fans that during the scene, Mick’s pint goes from full, to half-full, and back to full again. You can see it for yourself below.

Regardless of the mistake, the episode was a hit, drawing in an average audience of 12.3 million on Christmas Day, according to overnight figures. Surpassing the 2019 Christmas special, which had an overnight audience of 11.6 million.

It’s not the only error that’s been made across the series, in the lead up to the finale’s release, co-creator Ruth Jones said she noticed a mistake in the plot of the 2019 episode, involving Christmas puddings.

Speaking to Magic Radio, Jones said: “I watched the 2019 Christmas special the other night and I noticed a glaring continuity error. You know Pam leaves the Christmas puddings behind and forgets to take them because they have been otherwise occupied and they are mortified?

“Then Jason arrives and he’s stopped at the shop and he’s picked up Christmas puddings as well. So the next morning, when they haven’t got the Christmas puddings, one of them, and I can’t remember who it is, says ‘have we left nine Christmas puddings in the pub?’ There’s 18, there’s double.”

But co-creator James Corden didn’t seem bothered by the error.

He told Jones: “Does Bryn say that they have bought nine? No. Nobody says how many they’ve bought, and also, you don’t have a Christmas pudding each on Christmas Day. What I thought that happened is they’d bought four or five and then Jason turned up and bought four.”

This year’s Christmas special shocked viewers in the beginning when Smithy was preparing for a wedding with Sonia, instead of Nessa.

However the wedding eventually came to a halt, when Gavin – and others – shared that they believed Smithy was making a mistake.

Smithy and the group then rush to Nessa so he can declare his love to her. “I love you Nessa and I always have. Well, not always, but most of the time… I love you, will you marry me?”
