A male pedestrian aged in his 60s has died after being struck by a car in Co Meath.
The fatal collision occurred at Flowerhill in Navan at around 10.40pm on Friday.
It happened just hours after a female pedestrian in her 70s was killed in a separate collision involving a car in Co Carlow.
The man’s body has been removed from the scene and taken to the mortuary in Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan, where a post-mortem examination will take place.
The man who was driving the car, also aged in his 60s, was uninjured.
The road at Flowerhill remains closed on Saturday morning and local diversions are in place.
A technical examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators is to take place.
Gardai have appealed for any witnesses to the collision to come forward and have urged anyone who was travelling in the area at the time, and who may have camera footage, to make it available to them.
In Co Carlow, the woman was killed in a collision on the N80 in the townland of Rathcrogue at around 6.30pm on Friday.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The male driver of the car, aged in his 20s, was uninjured.
