Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has emphatically dismissed any hopes of European qualification this season following their latest defeat.
The Portuguese boss delivered his blunt assessment after United’s latest setback, which saw them remain in the bottom half of the Premier League table.
United were reduced to 10 men at the start of the second half against Wolves after Bruno Fernandes was shown a second yellow card with the game still goalless.
Wolves took the lead shortly after Fernandes’ dismissal through Matheus Cunha before they added a second late on to secure all three points.

“We have to work on a lot of things in our club both inside and outside the pitch,” Amorim said.
The Red Devils have endured a dismal run of form, losing four of their last five Premier League matches.
Despite pre-season ambitions, United find themselves languishing in the bottom half of the table.
United could find themselves 12 points adrift of the top four by the time they face Newcastle on Monday.
And Amorim has already conceded that European football might be out of reach altogether at this moment in time.
“No, no, no, no,” he replied when asked whether United could think of Europe come the end of the season.

When asked about the timeline for improvement, Amorim admitted: “I have no idea. No idea.”
The former Sporting Lisbon manager emphasised a focus on daily progress, stating: “Instead of me trying to understand how much time it will take – just day by day it’s about improving.”
He stressed the importance of using “every minute of training” and winning points in the immediate term.
“This will be a tough moment, we are far from the end of this moment,” Amorim added.
Despite the current struggles, Amorim insists he will maintain his principles and philosophy rather than adopting a more pragmatic approach.

The manager believes that accepting some short-term difficulties will prove beneficial for the club’s future development.
Newcastle United are next up for the Red Devils, and Amorim will be without Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte due to suspension.
