A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder by police investigating an assault on a man in Ballygawley which saw him suffer a “serious head injury”.

It happened outside a licensed premises in the Main Street area on Thursday evening, December 26.

The man, aged 50, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody.

The victim, a man aged in his 50s, was assaulted with a metal grate shortly before 7pm. He was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening at this time.

Enquiries are ongoing and police continue to appeal to anyone with any information about this assault to contact police on 101 quoting reference 1024 of 26/12/24.
