The Royal Mint is set to introduce a new £5 coin, among other new money pieces, for 2025. New coins will feature the Red Arrows and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.

The first look at some of the designs destined for commemorative coins in 2025 has been revealed. Next week will see the release of the Royal Mint’s 2025 annual set, which includes fresh designs for the 50p, £2 coin, and the £5 coin.

The £5 coin will honour the late Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, on the 125th anniversary of her birth and will feature a portrait from a design created for her 80th birthday in 1980. Two 50p coins will be issued, one to mark the 60th anniversary of the inaugural Red Arrows display, and the other to pay tribute to key figures of the Second World War.

As well as this, two new £2 coin designs will celebrate the bicentenary of modern railways and the establishment of the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London. Rebecca Morgan, director of commemorative coin at the Royal Mint, commented: “Highly anticipated by collectors, the 2025 annual set brings together a special selection of commemorative coins.

“From celebrating the world-renowned Red Arrows for their precision flying and intricate formations to commemorating the life and legacy of the Queen Mother, each coin has been meticulously designed and crafted to serve as a permanent reminder of these moments in British history and can be treasured for generations.”
