If your oven is looking a bit grimy after the Christmas Day cooking marathon and you’re feeling the pinch, don’t worry. There’s a nifty cleaning hack that will cost you less than £2 and leave your oven gleaming like new.

In fact, you might already have the ingredients for this cleaner in your house, meaning you can spruce up your oven for the New Year without spending a penny. By mixing baking soda and white vinegar, you can banish grease and grime from your oven without any unpleasant chemical smells wafting around your kitchen.

To begin with, take out the oven racks and let them soak in warm, soapy water for about half an hour to loosen any baked-on muck. Then, make a paste by combining about half a cup of baking soda with a few tablespoons of water in a small bowl until it forms a thick paste.

Once the paste is ready, spread it all over the inside of the oven using a sponge or cloth, avoiding the heating elements. Make sure you cover the greasiest parts thickly and let it sit for 12 hours – overnight is best.

After letting it rest and lift some of the grease, use a damp cloth to wipe away as much of the paste as you can before getting a spray bottle with white vinegar and spritzing your oven. It will fizz, and once the fizzing has stopped you can take a clean damp cloth and wipe off any residue, reports the Express.

If you want a streak-free finish, take a dry microfibre cloth and polish the oven and the door.

Lastly, after allowing the racks to soak, scrub them with a sponge to eliminate any remaining grease, rinse, and dry them before reinserting them into the oven.
