Police have launched a murder investigation after the death of a man in Newtownards this morning.
The PSNI confirmed three people have since been arrested.
A man aged 50 was found unconscious at a residential property in the West Street area of the town, just before 1.50am on Thursday, 26 December.
The man was taken to hospital, where he later passed away.
Police said a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
Two women, aged 58 and 33, were arrested at the scene, while a 36-year-old man was arrested at a nearby address.
Police confirmed they have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody at this time.
A spokesperson for the PSNI said: “Our investigation is at a very early stage and we are working to establish the full circumstances around this deplorable incident.
“Cordons remain in place and local residents will see a visible police presence in the area.”
The PSNI spokesperson continued: “Of course, it’s particularly shocking that this should happen at Christmas and we know that the thoughts of our community will be with this man’s family and friends today.
“I am appealing to anyone who believes they may have information which could assist with our investigation to contact us on 101 quoting reference number 98 of 26/12/24.”
