A 36-year-old man is wanted for robbery and assault after a pair of unprovoked incidents in the downtown area.
Toronto Police said officers responded Tuesday at about 5:25 p.m. to a call in the Queen St. W.-University Ave. area, where the suspect allegedly approached a victim on the street and choked them without provocation.
Then just over an hour later at 6:50 p.m., the suspect was at a business in the Yonge St.-Wellesley St. E. area, where he allegedly brandished a hammer without provocation, threatened an employee and took “multiple items without paying” before fleeing.
Byron Johnson, of no fixed address, is wanted for assault/choking and robbery with a weapon. He is 6-foot and 200 pounds with black hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a black winter jacket, a white sweater with the hood up, khaki pants, white shoes, and a brown backpack.
Police said not to approach Johnson if he is located and call 911 immediately.
