Alongside it, James added a message from his sister, which read: “At Christmas, and throughout the year, we must all shine for each other. Because in times of joy and sadness, we are all each other’s light.'”

The comments came an hour after the beginning of Kate’s Together at Christmas carol service broadcast.

The Princess of Wales recorded the voiceover introduction for tonight’s television broadcast of her annual carol service.

In her recorded message, Kate reveals that Christmas is “one of my favourite times of the year”.

She said: “It is a time for presents, tinsel and mince pies, but it’s also a time to slow down and reflect on the deeper things that connect us all.”
