“I have my moments mentally where it’s still a bit overwhelming,” Kyle Bradley said in an interview.
It was the evening of Nov. 26 when Bradley, a 36-year-old factory worker, says he was in a vehicle driven by his wife at the east London intersection of Highbury Avenue and Brydges Street as a red SUV “really aggressively” cut them off, jutting in front of them from the left-turn lane.
At an upcoming intersection, a red light stopped the Bradley vehicle and the SUV stopped in front of them, he said, adding the men were leaning out, yelling.
When his wife tried to drive around them, the SUV started to follow them “intently,” Bradley said. “To the point if we had tapped our brakes, we probably would have gotten into a rear-end collision.”
He said the aggression continued and Bradley’s wife pulled over. He cracked his window “to see what the men would say” as they exited their vehicle. He says he then realized his door was unlocked.
“I ended up out of the car. Once they got me out, I kicked the door (closed) behind me,” he said. “And the rest is a bit of a blur from my end. I couldn’t see much because I was getting whaled on.”
He says he lost his footing after getting punched. On the ground, he said he used his two arms to defend his head and says one of the attackers pulled out “some sort of blade” that cut his arms, leaving him with 40-stitch lacerations.
One of the attackers went to Bradley’s vehicle and pounded on the driver-side window, he says, but his wife had locked both doors. The attackers drove off in the SUV when a tow truck operator pulled over at the scene, Bradley said.
Bradley says there was no “provocation” for the aggression from the SUV duo. He says they demanded money as they beat him up, but didn’t get any. “It just seemed like we were just kind of randomly selected.”
An online fundraiser states Bradley suffered stab wounds and broke both arms in the attack, along with other injuries. It notes the father-of-two may suffer “permanent nerve damage in his arm and hand.” In an interview, Bradley said he suffered three wounds requiring 13, eight and 20 stitches along with facial fractures.
Police have said a couple was driving at about 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 26 when they noticed a suspicious vehicle, described by police as a red SUV, following them. As they approached Brydges and Cornish streets, police say the SUV tried to block them from driving forward. Police say the man, in the passenger seat, was attacked by two men.
The investigation was ongoing as of Tuesday, police said. Investigators have previously said they’re seeking two suspects:
- A white man between six-foot-two and six-foot-four, between ages 30 and 35 with a “very skinny” build and dirty blond hair. He was wearing a black or dark-blue hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
- A white man standing about six-feet tall, between ages 30 and 35 with dark brown or black hair. He was wearing a black or dark-blue hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
Anyone who may have dashboard-camera or surveillance video in the area of Brydges and Hale streets, Brydges and Cornish streets and Cornish Street and Cronyn Crescent between 5:50 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26 is asked to call London police at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
Bradley said he’s concerned there have been no arrests. “But my focus is on getting better so I can continue to provide for my family.”
