Tottenham’s poor Premier League season continued on Boxing Day, with Nottingham Forest winning 1-0 at the City Ground to pile more pressure on Ange Postecoglou.

The Australian knows his side must do better if they’re to finish in the Champions League qualifying positions come the end of the campaign.

But it’s Forest who look likelier to secure European football, with Anthony Elanga scoring the only goal of the game on Thursday to give Nuno Espirito Santo’s side all three points.

GB News now takes a look at four talking points from the match.

Postecoglou is a good manager but seems unable to turn things around at Tottenham, who continue to struggle for consistency.

And some fans on social media have now called on the Australian to be relieved of his duties, with one supporter saying: “Can we sack Postecoglou please?”

A second said ‘Get Ange out even if we manage to turn this around, please for god sake sack him’, while another stated: “So bored of Ange. How about a late Christmas present Levy? Sack him and sell the club the next day!!”

A fourth also fumed: “Sack Ange its not going to work in PL…. 21 Losses out of 41 PL Games is pathetic.”

Whether Daniel Levy feels the same remains to be seen.

Forest look the real deal

Much of the focus will be on Tottenham and how they continue to lurch from one defeat to another.

But Forest deserve credit for their outstanding performances this season, with Nuno’s team continuing to punch above their weight.

They were professional against Spurs and fully deserved to claim all three points who Elanga, with the former Manchester United star a constant threat throughout.

Many expect Forest to falter but, as things stand, it’s so far so good.

Maddison decision backfires

Postecoglou decided to be bold by dropping James Maddison for the clash.

But that decision didn’t pay off, with Tottenham desperately lacking creativity before the playmaker was brought off the bench.

Maddison appeared frustrated after his introduction in yet another worrying sign for Postecoglou.

The former Celtic boss needs everybody pulling together to transform their fortunes but the doom and gloom mood seems hard to shake off.

It used to be that, when you leave United, your career doesn’t recover.

That’s not the case these days, however, and Elanga’s brilliant performances for Forest show he’s been vindicated in leaving Old Trafford.

The winger has been one of the best in the Premier League this season and he’s now scored in three consecutive matches for the first time in his career.

If Forest can keep the 22-year-old fit then that iconic Champions League anthem could be hard at the City Ground next term…
