A Northern Ireland town is in shock after the sudden deaths of two well-known residents.

Mark McMorrow, a former teacher at Tannaghmore Primary School, Lurgan, passed away on Sunday.

Separately, Stephen Carson died suddenly on Monday.

Local people have reacted with shock at the news.

A death notice for Mr McMorrow, a father of three from Lough Road in Lurgan, said he died “suddenly and unexpectedly at home”.

It said he will be “always loved and remembered by his sorrowing family and the entire family circle”.

Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10.30am in St Peter’s Church, Lurgan with burial afterwards in St Colman’s Cemetery.

Many people paid tributes to Mr McMorrow, recalling his time as a teacher.

One said simply: “He made school magic for all of us.”

A second said: “The best teacher who made such a positive and lasting impact on so many kids. Very fond memories of P5 and the Snow White pantomime.”

Another said: “A wonderful teacher, talented in so many ways. Involved in all of the wonderful school productions. He had amazing charisma and was such a ‘cool’ teacher and one that everyone wanted to be around.”

One work colleague wrote: “Such a wonderful man. I had the pleasure of working with Mark and he was a true gentleman. Thinking of all the McMorrow family at this extremely difficult time.”

Sean Treacys Hurling Club also paid tribute to the man, saying: “On behalf of everyone in the club, we’d like to offer our sincerest condolences to the wider McMorrow family on the passing of Mark, father to our senior player Thomas.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with you all in this difficult time.”

Meanwhile, Mr Carson, from Glenwood Park, Lurgan, died suddenly at home on Monday.

A family notice said: “Lovingly remembered by all his family and friends. Simply The Best.”

His funeral service will be in Malcomsons Funeral Home on Sunday at 2pm followed by interment in Lurgan Cemetery.

His death notice invited those attending the funeral to wear Rangers colours.

Dollingstown Star of the North Flute Band said members were “saddened” at the passing of a former member of the band.

A statement said: “It is true to state that the Carson family have had a strong connection with the band for over twenty years and the family are always in attendance at fundraising events. The entire Carson family are in our thoughts and prayers at this time.”

Others paid tribute to him online and sent their sympathies to his family and friends.
