Those with decent memories will remember a lady called Gillian Duffy from Rochdale.
Widowed, with two disabled children, she single-handedly destroyed Gordon Brown’s election campaign in 2010 by telling him face to face that there were too many immigrants coming to the country.
In turn Brown was caught on microphone telling aides that she was a ‘’bigoted woman.’’ That did for him. He apologised, but too late. The nation supported Mrs Duffy, 65, and he was thrown out of No.10.
Flash forward to today. Still in the North, but this time in Knottingley, West Yorkshire, where a woman voter is captured on video (you can see it on the socials) showing her frustration at Home Secretary Yvette Cooper for handing out mince pies in her constituency (accusing her of being ‘’two-faced’’ while pensioners were ‘’freezing to death’’.
She made the rather good point that Ms Cooper would be better off donating blankets to the elderly.
The lady, who is off camera, attacks her for a range of decisions including the scrapping of the winter fuel allowance, the ending of the Rwanda scheme and refusing to pay compensation to the Waspi women.
Giving a clue to her political allegiance, she also accused Labour of trying to stop Elon Musk from donating to Reform. Must say I agree with all that lady’s points with the exception of Waspi.
Ms Cooper pushes back by referring to the government’s strategy on migration. Was that the best she could do?
We’ve just had the biggest one-day arrival of migrants in December since records back and she talks about strategy.
We don’t want bloody strategy, we want action. The same speed that her government handed out money to the unskilled labour force called train drivers would be nice.
In a desperate attempt to wind down the public row, Ms Cooper pleaded: ‘’ It’s Christmas.’’
That didn’t work as the woman said; ‘’You’ll not get in next time. I hope you’re out next time, I really do.’’
She then rejects Ms Cooper’s offer a mince pie saying: “The thing is, you’ve betrayed everything that everybody voted for you, in everything.’’
As the woman walks away Ms Cooper says she hopes she has a ‘’lovely Christmas’’ to which she replies; ‘’I hope you don’t.’’
I suspect that anonymous lady was speaking for the majority of the country. The six months of Labour rule has been a nightmare. The reality is that the Tories had been beyond dreadful in office, they talked Right and acted Left.
The rot started with Cameron. He was the one who slashed the heart out of armed services, always believing that the United Sates would come to Europe’s rescue. He was wrong. Nor did he view Russia the threat that it is today.
He never understood working-class people and their views on migration and therefore Brexit came as a total shock to him. If he didn’t understand that how on earth did he ever become our Prime Minister. A complete dud.

Theresa May was another no hoper. Boris was a disappointment. Truss a short-lived disaster and Sunak never had the heart for the fight.
All the time Nigel Farage was hoovering up votes from all sides of the political spectrum. Today his polling is better than Badenoch and I expect that to continue for the years out. Be astonished if she were leader in a couple of years.
The county council elections will be a nightmare for Badenoch and the Tories. Expect Reform to have some stunning wins.
The most important thing is that Farage stays fit. At 60 he’s probably in better shape than before but that commute of Clacton-Westminster-Florida is sapping. If he were to drop dead it’s hard to believe that Richard Tice, clever that he is, would have the same impact come the General Election.
So, Gillian Duffy of Rochdale did for Brown and I expect the anonymous lady of Knottingley will do for Cooper in the end.
The down to earth reaction of two Northern ladies have spoken for the nation. Bless em.
