A fire alarm at Paris’s iconic Eiffel Tower saw hundreds evacuated. Emergency responders were sent in as people fled the French landmark while the situation was dealt with.

A technical fault is believed to have led to a short circuit. Initial reports suggest that firefighters encountered difficulties in reaching the scene, which was believed to be located within the elevator shaft connecting the first and second floors.

There are no reports of any injuries and the incident has been dealt with. Images show 999 crews at the scene as crowds of people look on while emergency work is carried out.

A journalist for Boulevard Voltaire wrote: “Around 1200 people were evacuated.”

There was concern before the incident was brought under control as some thought there had been a fire, as initial reports said. One person on X said at the time: “A fire is currently raging at the Eiffel Tower.

“The monument has just been evacuated. An emergency response company has established a perimeter, but firefighters are unable to access the flames.”

Another individual commented online: “A fire is in progress at the Eiffel Tower. Flames were observed in the elevator shaft between the 1st and 2nd floors. All people in the vicinity have been evacuated. The firefighters are still working.”
