Bill Clinton has been rushed to hospital in Washington DC for testing and observation.
The former US President, 78, was admitted to MedStar Georgetown University Medical Center after he began to develop a fever, according to his spokesman.
“He remains in good spirits and deeply appreciates the excellent care he is receiving,” his deputy chief of staff, Angel Ureña, said.
Over the years, the Democrat has suffered from a number of health issues, undergoing major heart surgeries on several occasions.

In 2004, he had quadruple bypass surgery after enduring extensive chest pains, as well as shortness of breath.
The next year, he underwent surgery again for a partially collapsed lung, and then five years later he had a pair of stents implanted in his coronary artery.
Thanks to adopting a mostly vegan diet, the former President bid adieu to fast foods and fatty diets and has now reported improved health as a result.
Meanwhile, the President-elect has a different approach to his diet, with one long-time friend of the Republican Dana White claiming that she has never once seen Donald Trump drink water – although he is known for his undying love of Diet Coke.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
Earlier this year, he took part and spoke at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago during the election campaign, supporting Vice-President Kamala Harris in the Presidential Election last month.
The Democrat later lost to Donald Trump, who had previously beaten the first female presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, the former First Lady of the United States, in the 2016 election.
Beyond surgeries, in 2021, Bill Clinton spent six days in a Californian hospital for an infection, which one of his aides attributed to a urological infection that had spread to his bloodstream.
Fortunately, he was in the process of making a recovery and did not go into septic shock, which could have been fatal.

Although the aide added that he was in an intensive care unit, he was not actually receiving care that one normally receives in the ICU.
Then, a year later, he caught Covid, saying that he had mild symptoms and was “grateful to be vaccinated and boosted”.
Clinton served two presidential terms from 1993 until 2001 and survived a number of international scandals, both personal and political.
