Two women have been arrested after cannabis worth almost 1.3 million euro was seized at Shannon Airport.
The cannabis was discovered concealed in vacuum-packed packages in the baggage of two women who had disembarked a flight originating from the United States.
Revenue said the 64 kilos of herbal cannabis was discovered “as a result of risk profiling”.
Dozens of the black vacuum-sealed bags were taken from the women’s suitcases.
The women, aged in their 20s and 40s, were detained under drug trafficking legislation at a garda station in the south of the country.
This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting organised crime groups and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs.
A spokeswoman said: “If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on 1800 295 295.”
Investigations are ongoing.
