A 31-year-old Toronto man has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of another man Saturday morning near Earlscourt Park.

Toronto Police located the victim while responding to a report of an injured person in the St. Clair Ave. W.-Nairn Ave. area just before 3 a.m. Officers found a man with “obvious signs of trauma,” Homicide Det.-Sgt. Brandon Price told reporters Saturday at the scene.

The man was taken to a trauma centre via an emergency run and life-saving measures were taken, but he was “ultimately pronounced deceased at hospital” and Price said it “appeared that the male had been stabbed.”

Price also said there was a “protracted altercation” at the time of the stabbing involving up to five people.

Police identified the victim of the city’s 84th homicide of the year as David Cardoso, 21, of Toronto.

Nelson Raposo Vidinha has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

“This remains an active and ongoing investigation,” Const. Laura Brabant said Sunday in a news release. “Anyone who witnessed the altercation or who was in the area at the time and has video surveillance or dash-camera footage is urged to contact police.”
