Co Down golfer Rory McIlory has found himself Home Alone this Christmas, but everything is not quite as it seems.
The four time major tournament winning champion has taken part in a light-hearted campaign which sees him and his fellow golfing stars recreate movie posters of iconic Christmas films.
McIlory’s poster, titled ‘Hole in One’ sees him take on the role of Kevin McCallister in the 1990 classic Home Alone, alongside golfers Charley Hull and Colin Morikawa as the ‘Wet Bandits’ Harry and Marv.
The campaign has been created by Taylor Made Golf, a luxury golfing retailer based in the United States. It also features Tiger Woods’ who stars in ‘Tiger’s Vacation’ in a spin on the 1989 comedy National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation starring Chevy Chase, while Tommy Fleetwood takes on ‘Drive Hard’ as the role made famous by Bruce Willis, John McClane in Die Hard.
Scottie Scheffler also features as ‘The Scottie Clause’ parodying The Santa Clause with Tim Allen, while Nelly Korda is ‘Nelly’ in a take on the Will Ferrell comedy Elf.
“We did it again!” #TeamTaylorMade got into the holiday spirit by recreating the iconic posters of some of our favorite Christmas movies. (and yes, slide three IS a Christmas movie!),” the brand wrote on Instagram.
The reception to the posters was also positive, racking up nearly 35k ‘likes’ on the platform, while some users commented asking the brand if they were available for purchase.
His appearance in ‘Hole in One’ comes as McIlroy has been backed for US Open glory by fellow Briton Sandy Lyle following his timely triumph at the Canadian Open.
He will tee off at Brookline Country Club buoyed by clinching the 21st PGA Tour crown of his career in Ontario last weekend.
Two-time major winner Lyle expects McIlory to be brimming with confidence going into the showpiece tournament in Massachusetts, which begins on Thursday.
Earlier this month, the Co Down man also took part in a Christmas special with Sky, who aired ‘Rory McIlroy: Expectation’ a documentary special looking at this career.
