There are many types of families in the world, so there are many types of cars and SUVs that can be considered “family vehicles.” Mid-size and large cars, compact SUVs, midsize SUVs, or large three-row SUVs may all qualify as appropriate for moving a crowd, depending on that crowd’s size. With a tonne of new products on the way in the next year or so that meets this definition, we’ve added some attributes to narrow down this list of the new family vehicles coming in 2025.

For a start, we’ve homed in on mainstream brands, here. If you’re interested in learning about upcoming luxury vehicles, that’s a whole other list. And while we’ve included a handful of very family-focused electric vehicles, there are many more EVs launching in 2025.

Now, onto the people-movers. Here are 12 of the top new vehicles for families coming in 2025.

2025 Dodge Charger

The revived Dodge Charger hits dealerships in 2025, now built on parent company Stellantis’ STLA Large platform and being assembled in Windsor, Ontario. To call this a “redesign” is an understatement: it really couldn’t be much more different from the previous Dodge Charger.

For one thing, the “Charger” name will apply to both the coupe and sedan body styles, as the “Challenger” nameplate gets mothballed. An electric version, dubbed the 2025 Dodge Charger Daytona, starts in Canada at $56,190. Driving.ca’s Elle Alder has already driven and reviewed the Dodge Charger Daytona, in fact. The gas-powered Dodge Charger Sixpack will be powered by Stellantis’s Hurricane six-cylinder engines — including a four-door standard-output version rated at 420 horsepower; and a two-door high-output version with 550 horsepower — and is due in mid-2025.

2025 Ford Expedition

Ford’s largest SUV gets an overhaul for 2025. This upcoming fifth generation introduces a Tremor off-road trim for the first time and adds updated styling; a revamped cabin with seating for up to eight; a new split tailgate design; and more. There’s also a simplified version of the infotainment system that debuted in the Lincoln Nautilus, here, with a top screen that spans nearly half the dashboard and a bottom touchscreen for controls.

Our own Graeme Fletcher prepared a thorough preview of the new Expedition, if you’re looking for a deeper dive. Pricing on the 2025 Ford Expedition starts at $82,115 in Canada, and we expect we’ll get to drive it for the first time in the spring.

2026 Honda Passport

The Honda Passport veers off the tracks laid by the Honda Pilot somewhat as it heads off on its fourth generation for the 2026 model year. The automaker has confirmed it will come with a revamped 3.5-litre V6 engine and i-VTM4 all-wheel-drive (AWD). It will also continue to offer a TrailSport trim with features like updated off-road cameras. A 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.3-inch colour touchscreen with standard Google Built-in are among the tech highlights.

David Booth’s got a preview of the 2026 Honda Passport here, if you want some details. Don’t let the model year throw you off: Honda has tended to release new models well ahead of the years they wear recently. We expect the 2026 Honda Passport will first hit the trails sometime in spring 2025.

2026 Hyundai Ioniq 9

A new three-row electric SUV contender launches next year with the arrival of the 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 9. It offers seating for up to seven passengers and riffs on the futuristic design cues of the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, with plenty of straight lines and pixelated lighting. Three different variations will be offered, with the longest-range version shooting for 480 kilometres (300 miles) of range.

Graeme Fletcher took a close look at the thing in person at the L.A. Auto Show this November. Production of the 2026 Ioniq 9 for North America is slated to begin in the first quarter of 2025, with deliveries beginning before the summer.

2026 Hyundai Palisade

The Ioniq 9 adds three rows of electrification to Hyundai’s line-up, but the gas-powered Hyundai Palisade also gets a thorough redesign next year. We don’t know much about the second-generation Palisade yet, but the preview photos we’ve seen show an exterior that’s not entirely unlike a Range Rover. We’ve also seen images of a nine-seat version, though it’s possible that’s only destined for Korea, and North American Palisades will get a permanent centre console between the front-row seats.

Check out our preview based on what we know so far, or peruse the specs leaked for the Korean-market version. The 2026 Hyundai Palisade is expected to launch some time in 2025.

2025 Jeep Wagoneer S

If you follow these lists annually, you may know we were expecting the all-electric Jeep Wagoneer S to have made its debut by now. However, production was delayed, and we’re now looking to early 2025 to see the first editions.

Here’s what we know so far: Jeep is targeting a 480-kilometre range and a 20%-to-80% DC fast-charging time of 23 minutes. The Wagoneer S will be sold with two rows and five seats. Power is slated to max out at 600 hp. Pricing on the 2025 Jeep Wagoneer S has yet to be announced as of this writing.

2026 Kia Telluride

The Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride are closely related, so it makes sense both are entering their second generations on the same timeline. We’re working entirely on rumours with this one, since nothing official has been announced, though there are spy photographs floating around. Some have suggested the Telluride may keep its current 3.8-litre V6 engine. We’ll need to wait for word from Kia on the rest, which could arrive any time now that Palisade information has become available.

2026 Subaru Forester Hybrid

The Subaru Forester compact SUV received an overhaul for the 2025 model year. (And we’ve driven it: check out the review by Driving.ca’s Andrew McCredie here.) But Subaru kept one trick up its sleeve with this reveal: by 2026, the Forester will be available with a hybrid powertrain for the first time.

The Forester Hybrid is expected to combine one of the brand’s boxer engines with electric components from Toyota. (That company’s loaning its tech around a lot these days: the 2025 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid uses Toyota hybrid components, too.) Pricing and other details will land closer to the Forester Hybrid’s launch some time in late 2025.

2026 Subaru Outback

Now that the Subaru Legacy sedan has met the chopping block, the brand may feel more at liberty to deviate from established norms on the upcoming seventh-generation Subaru Outback. Such are the rumours, at least: spy shots suggest the next Outback will have a more SUV-like profile, a big change for a car that began its life as the Legacy’s wagon variant and has kept hints of those origins for nearly 30 years.

Read more on what else those spy shots revealed as explained by Matthew Guy, here. Not much else is known about the 2026 Subaru Outback at this stage, apart from that we expect to learn more and see a full reveal some time in 2025.

2025 Toyota 4Runner

It’s been a long wait for Toyota 4Runner fans. The fifth generation’s run lasted for 14 years, spanning from 2010 to 2024. Now, an all-new Toyota 4Runner is on the way for 2025, and its details are slowly being revealed. We know it will come with two- and three-row configurations; two powertrain variants (a turbocharged four-cylinder and a hybrid); and two new premium trims, the Platinum and the Trailhunter factory-built overlander.

Pricing on the 2025 Toyota 4Runner starts at $57,840, and we expect to drive it sometime in the first quarter of next year.

2026 Toyota RAV4

Toyota has said nothing about its next-generation RAV4 as of publication time. However, rumours persist that we can expect to see a fully redesigned Toyota RAV4 some time in 2025, to be launched in 2026. There’s good reason to believe the RAV4 may follow the lead of the recently redesigned 2025 Toyota Camry and sport a fully hybridized line-up. (These two vehicles share a platform, so this would make a lot of sense.) Expect to see updated styling and the latest Toyota technology as well.

2025 Volkswagen Tiguan

Compact SUVs are where it’s at in Canada these days. Volkswagen is taking a fresh run at the segment with the redesigned 2025 Tiguan, which first tipped its hat at the 2024 L.A. Auto Show. (Read Sami Haj-Assaad’s first look review here.) The new Tiguan gets a power bump to 201 hp from its 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder engine. A hybrid is said to be on the way, though there’s been no confirmation of what that timeline might look like.

It also receives a major interior overhaul with improved materials and better technology, including a standard 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster and 12.9-inch infotainment screen, with a larger 15-inch screen available for the latter. Pricing is still to come on the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan in Canada, but we do know we can expect to see it on Canadian roads by the summer of 2025.
