Prince Harry reportedly became flush with indignation when Meghan Markle mimic her initial curtsy to the late Queen Elizabeth, an expert asserts.
In the explosive Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan, the couple delved into their experiences as members of the Royal Family, including Meghan’s first encounter with Her Majesty.
The pivotal moment occurred during a Windsor rendezvous for lunch at the Royal Lodge with Princess Eugenie, reports the Express.
Recalling the protocol lesson for Meghan, Harry remarked, “How do you explain that to people? How do you explain that you bow to your grandmother? And that you will need to curtsy. Especially to an American. That’s weird.”
In her reflection, Meghan contended: “It’s surreal. It wasn’t like some big moment of like, ‘Now you’re going to meet my grandmother,” she mused. “I didn’t know I was going to meet her until moments before.”
She went on, recalling their journey to the estate: “And I remember we were in the car and we were driving up and he’s like ‘You know how to curtsy right? ‘ And I just thought it was a joke.”
Meghan’s impersonation followed, portraying an elaborate curtsy and playfully declaring: “Pleasure to meet you, Your Majesty”, with the camera pan to Harry.
Body language specialist Jesus Enrique Rosas took to his Youtube channel to dissect Harry’s apparently flustered response featured in the documentary.
The body language expert observed: “The first part of Harry’s reaction tells me that he knew what was coming. He is serious even if Meghan is speaking quickly, joyfully but there’s no connection, no empathy in him. He is serious and maybe even angry, notice what happens with his throat, he is swallowing at that moment.”
They also commented on the visible signs of disdain from Prince Harry towards Meghan’s actions, saying, “He is looking at Meghan and he displays contempt. A split second after that, he looks away and presses his jaw.”
“He is looking at Meghan and he displays contempt. A split second after that, he looks away and presses his jaw,” the expert added, noting Harry’s facial coloration. “You can see the patches of red on his face are much redder the cheeks, the bridge of the nose, the temples it could be that he feels ashamed or angry.”
The expert elaborated, “I’m going to tell you why this is covert anger and not [Harry being] ashamed. If he was ashamed, he would have smiled a bit more, or [had] a nervous laughter.”
“But he knew what was coming and he couldn’t stand it – that he had that face at the beginning and had that subtle swallow right before Meghan did the curtsy.”
