Police have confirmed a man was found dead in a tent after the discovery of a body at a Dartmoor beauty spot.

The identity of the man, located at Sheepstor yesterday afternoon, December 21, is currently unknown. There are said to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at around 1.45pm on Saturday, December 21, following reports of a body being found in a tent at Sheepstor.

“Paramedics also attended the scene but despite resuscitation efforts a male was pronounced deceased. Enquiries are ongoing to identify the male.

“The death is currently not being treated as suspicious.”

Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team – Tavistock were tasked with recovering the body in difficult weather conditions yesterday.

On its Facebook page today it stated: “We were called by Devon and Cornwall Police yesterday afternoon [December 21] at the onset of the longest night of the year, which proved to be another wet one with winds gusting gale force, to recover the body of a person found sadly deceased.

“14 team members and both Land Rovers deployed to near Burrator Reservoir, and the person was stretchered to the road and transferred into the care of the undertakers. Our thoughts are with the person’s friends and family at this time.”
