Emergency services have responded after reports of a car in the water at a Co Down beach.

The incident occurred at Ballyholme Beach near Bangor on Saturday morning.

Police and ambulance crews attended the incident, along with members of the local coastguard.

One man was taken to hospital.

The Bangor Coastguard Rescue Team released details on its Facebook page.

It said a team was tasked along with Portaferry Coastguard Rescue Team “to reports of a vehicle in the water on Ballyholme Beach”.

It added: “The team arrived on scene and the driver was being assisted by members of the public.

“Coastguard rescue officers assessed the casualty whilst others officer entered the water in order to check the vehicle for other occupants.

“Police and ambulance later arrived on scene and tended to the casualty. The scene was handed over to police and the team returned to station.

“The team would like to thank all the members of the public who reported the incident and those who helped on scene with the casualty.”

The PSNI said: “Police attended the report of a concern for the safety of a man in the Seacliff Road area of Bangor on Saturday morning, December 21.

“One man was taken to hospital by NIAS.”
