Two people have died in separate accidents on Northern Ireland’s roads.

The victims were a pedestrian, who died in Co Tyrone, and a pensioner, who died in Co Antrim.

In the first incident, a man passed away in hospital following the single-vehicle incident in Dungannon on Friday evening.

Inspector Cherith Adair, from the PSNI’s Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Police received a report, shortly after 6.30pm, that a pedestrian had collided with a vehicle on John Street.

“Officers attended, alongside our colleagues from partner emergency services. Sadly, the pedestrian later died from their injuries in hospital.

“The road is still closed whilst enquiries are ongoing.”

She said police want to hear from witnesses or anyone who may have captured dash-cam or other footage which could assist with officers’ enquiries.

Independent councillor Barry Monteith said that “everyone is shocked and saddened” by the news.

“He will be sadly missed by his family,” Mr Monteith told the BBC.

Separately, a man in his 70s has died following a road traffic collision in Ballynure, Co Antrim, on Friday evening.

At around 6.30pm on Friday a black Porsche Cayenne mounted a roundabout on the Belfast Road and collided with a lorry.

“Sadly a man in his 70s was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman has been taken to hospital for treatment of her injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening at this stage,” Inspector Adair added.

“The Belfast Road had been closed but has since reopened.”
