Nationwide has thanked its many members as it also moved to make them aware of an upcoming three-day closure, as it prepares to shut down all UK branches. The world’s largest building society sent emails out this week to notify customers of the services available during the festive period.
Part of the message reads: “As 2024 ends, we would like to thank you for choosing us. Whether you’ve chosen us for your everyday banking, to secure a safe and rewarding home for your savings, or to help with your home buying dreams.”
The notice also advised: “If you’re heading to a branch, just to let you know on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day we will be closed. Please check your local branch opening times before you travel.”
This announcement comes in the wake of Nationwide’s commitment to keeping local branches open in the coming years. The “Branch Promise” asserts: “Everywhere we have a branch, we’ll still be there until at least the start of 2028.”
Nationwide has explained that “branches are important to our customers”, adding that it would only close a branch if forced by “circumstances outside of our control” and “if we don’t have another workable option”. The building society said it has “the UK’s biggest branch network with more branches than any other banking brand.”
