A quantity of cocaine with an estimated value of 840,000 euro has been seized in Cork.

Gardai stopped a car travelling southbound on the M8 motorway at Glanmire on Wednesday evening as part of an intelligence-led national operation.

After the vehicle was searched, 12kg of suspected cocaine was discovered with an estimated street value of around 840,000 euro.

The driver, a man aged in his 30s, was arrested at the scene and detained at a Garda station in Cork city under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

The seized drugs are being forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.
