Derry City have confirmed that winger Daniel Kelly has left the Brandywell after agreeing to cancel his contract by mutual consent.

Kelly joined City from Dundalk at the start of 2024 and made 30 appearances before injury ended his season at the end of August.

The player expressed a wish to return to Dublin and an amicable departure was agreed.

New boss Tiernan Lynch has continued his rebuild by adding Northern Ireland international Shane Ferguson to his panel.

Goalkeeper Brian Maher has also signed a new two-year deal which will keep him at the club until 2026.

City will travel to League of Ireland champions Shelbourne for their opening game on February 14.

Meanwhile, eight clubs from Northern Ireland have confirmed their participation in the Minor section of the 2025 Budget Energy SuperCupNI.

The Minor section (U13 age group) was first introduced in 2018.

Reigning champions Crusaders will be joined by Linfield who finished runner-up in the summer tournament.

Cliftonville are returning while Shankill Juniors, who have impressed in the National League so far this season, are new entrants.

Glenavon are joined by fellow Armagh side Loughgall Youth FC while Coleraine and Ballymena United will also feature. The remaining non-Northern Irish entrants will be confirmed in January.

Tournament chairperson Victor Leonard said: “Last summer we had record crowds at the Minor tournament and our two semi-finals were sell-outs at Anderson Park, which showcases the popularity of this section of the tournament.

“This section also has the added incentive of the winners qualifying for the Mina Cup in Dubai and we are looking forward to seeing how Crusaders fare in the Gulf in April. They will be the first team from Northern Ireland to participate in the Mina Cup, a tournament we have very strong affiliations with in Dubai.

“The Minor section was introduced to provide these sort of invaluable opportunities for local clubs and I am sure there is a great deal of excitement among the NI clubs as they ramp up preparations for the tournament next summer.”

The Budget Energy SuperCupNI 2025 will kick off on Sunday, July 27, with the traditional welcome parade and opening ceremony in Coleraine.
