With Canada facing a massive tariff on exports to the United States once Donald Trump becomes president again Jan. 20, Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre wants an “emergency” election to ensure someone serious is at the head of our country’s table.
The people currently at the helm of Canada are not only unserious, they’re being openly mocked by Trump on social media.
“It’s a chaotic clown show,” Poilievre told The Toronto Sun in an exclusive interview in Mississauga Tuesday. “We need to fire them all – and let’s not make any mistake. Not just Trudeau but all of them – every single of one them.”
He was talking about what he calls the “NDP/Liberal” government.
“It is an absolute nightmare,” added Poilievre. “We need to fire every single one of the NDP Liberal clowns and elect a common-sense Conservative government that will axe the tax, build the homes and stop the crime.”
It’s vital, said Poilievre, that Conservatives be in office to negotiate a fair agreement with Trump, who — like all of America and the world — saw the poor state of Canada’s leadership on full display Monday.
They are laughing at us. And this is no laughing matter.

“It is a serious, serious situation, we are staring down the barrel of a 25% tariff from a very strong president who was newly elected who has four years ahead of him,” said Poilievre.
But when your country’s dollar dipped under 70 cents, you are moving forward with a $62-billion annual deficit and you “have four finance ministers in one day,” this is not a good time to be competing with Trump.
“This is a guy who thrived in the most brutal jungle of economic warfare, and that’s the Manhattan real estate market. This guy knows how to negotiate, and he spots weakness a mile away,” said Poilievre.
That’s why Canada needs an “emergency axe-the-tax election” to elect “a common-sense Conservative government headed by someone with the brains and backbone to put Canada first.”
But there is one major stumbling block to getting this election.
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh refuses to vote down this minority government. This is putting Canada’s future in jeopardy and its chance at economic recovery at risk.
Singh could put an end to the madness immediately.
“Every Canadian should call Jagmeet Singh and say, ‘Put your country before your pension and vote for a carbon tax election now,’” said Poilievre.
The Conservative leader added he has already told Singh that.
“I have,“ insisted Poilievre. “But he is so determined to get his pension.”
Earlier, during a news conference, Poilievre said while talk about pensions, Christmas breaks, Rolex watches, Maserati’s and palace intrigue may make for good theatre, it rubs salt in the wounds of families trying to pay for groceries, their mortgages, music lessons and kids’ hockey.
Appearing calm and clear in his messaging, Poilievre said Singh “has to wait until February” for his parliamentary pension to kick in “and that is why he’ll wait to March to defeat the government.”
Well, March is one month after Jagmeet qualifies for his pension,” said Poilievre, who mockingly teased “maybe what we would go do is set up a GoFundMe Page, to raise money to prepay Jagmeet Singh’s pension so that he doesn’t have to keep the country in this state of misery for another year.”
Hey, any idea to trigger an election now is worth considering.
Poilievre insisted there is no way MPs should be able to shuffle out of Ottawa to a fancy vacation on a beach and not come back until next year while the country’s economics are on fire.
“We should cancel Christmas holidays because the NDP/Liberals don’t deserve a holiday and common-sense Conservatives would rather work anyway,” said Poilievre. “It’s a bloody disaster up there. We can’t leave people twisting in the wind while we, as politicians, who have the responsibility to fix it, are wasting time.”
With Trump’s inauguration just a little more than a month away, Canada needs to secure an agreement with the president-elect before the country falls off an economic cliff.
Poilievre said when Trump “looks over at the chaotic clown show and the chief circus master Justin Trudeau, he sees nothing but weakness.”
What Canadians see is their dream jobs, homes, savings, cost of living and a decent retirement going up in flames.
