A weather warning has been issued for strong winds in parts of Northern Ireland this weekend.

The Met Office yellow alert is between 7am and 9pm on Saturday.

It affects counties Antrim, Down and Londonderry, as well as parts of Scotland.

According to the Met Office, strong westerly winds are expected to develop through the course of Saturday, with gusts of 50-60 mph developing quite widely across this region.

This has the potential to cause delays to public transport and some disruption to the road network, impacting on the busy pre-Christmas weekend travel.

Dangerous coastal conditions can be expected too, with large waves an additional hazard.

Yesterday, the Met Office issued a wind warning across parts of Northern Ireland, with the potential for travel disruption and gusts of up to 60mph in some areas. The yellow warning was in place from 3pm on Tuesday until 8am this morning.
