• Hold on to your horses, er, goats: the all-electric Ram 1500 REV’s launch is being delayed to 2026
  • However, the range-extended electrified Ramcharger will see orders open the first half of 2025
  • Stellantis notes Michigan is the primary home of Ram 1500 production

Insisting it wants to be right instead of first, Ram has long maintained it doesn’t matter the forthcoming all-electric Ram 1500 REV is behind the eight ball in terms of showing up for sale at dealers compared to the Ford F-150 Lightning and EV variants of the Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra. It’s likely the company’ll be singing from that hymnbook for a while longer, after this morning announcing the EV truck will not appear until the 2026 calendar year.

Framed as part of a decision in which the range-extender Ram 1500 Ramcharger is “pulled ahead” in terms of its launch, this suggests it’s all-hands-on-deck for that truck. This isn’t the first time the Ram 1500 REV has been pushed back, with some consumer-facing Stellantis websites such as ramtruck.cacontinuing to suggest the thing will drop in the autumn of 2024. That date was long scrubbed in favour of the first half of 2025, which has now morphed into 2026.

So where’s the silver lining? Well, it’s wrapped around the Ram 1500 Ramcharger, it seems, with that truck slated as being open for consumer orders in the first half of next year. For anyone unfamiliar, the Ramcharger will bear much similarity to an ICE-powered Ram 1500 in terms of its appearance, but will deploy a hybrid system which uses a gasoline-powered V6 engine to recharge its 92-kWh battery pack.

In short, it’ll act like an electric truck in terms of raw shove, thanks to a pair of electric drive modules which propel the wheels; but range anxiety will be erased due to the V6 gasser helping out under its hood. Total range on a full tank of fuel and fully charged battery is expected to be in the neighbourhood of 1,000 kilometres.

In truth, this is a smart play — even if it’s being framed as a “pulling ahead” of the Ramcharger when really the REV is being delayed again. Ram is going to have a tremendously unique selling proposition with the Ramcharger, offering the best of both worlds in terms of power and range. With the V6 engine solely dedicated to generating electricity and leaving propulsion to the electric motors, energy (both fuel and electrons) are arguably used more efficiently.

Stellantis says the Sterling Heights (Michigan) Assembly Plant will continue to be the primary home for Ram 1500 production, including electrified and internal-combustion-engine versions. This seemingly throwaway statement at the bottom of today’s bumf is likely a nod to all the tariff talk being hurled around by the incoming American administration.
