Fraser Minten’s second stint with the Maple Leafs has come to an end.
The Leafs announced on Tuesday morning that they’ve assigned the 20-year-old centre to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.
Minten had two goals and two assists in 11 games with the Leafs before he was a healthy scratch on Sunday, when Toronto beat Buffalo at Scotiabank Arena.
Minten’s chances of making the Leafs out of training camp were derailed when he suffered a high-ankle sprain during a rookie game in Montreal in September. He had four points in five games with the Marlies prior to being recalled by the Leafs and making National Hockey League season debut on Nov. 20 against Vegas, when he scored the winning goal against the Golden Knights.
The Leafs second-round pick in 2022, Minten played in four games with Toronto after making the club out of training camp in October 2023 prior to being sent back to the Western Hockey League.
The Leafs continue to get players back from injury and, among forwards, only centre David Kampf (lower body) and winger Calle Jarnkrok (groin) remain out. Kampf recently has been practising with the team.
The Leafs are scheduled to practise on Tuesday morning at the Ford Performance Centre to prepare for a two-game trip that includes stops in Dallas on Wednesday and Buffalo on Friday.
More to come …
