A woman who died following a fire at a house in west Belfast has been named locally as Debbie Burns.
Police were notified of the blaze in the New Barnsley Park area at around 3.25pm on Monday and attended with colleagues from the emergency services.
A death notice has been posted by O’Neills Funeral Directors after Ms Burns died suddenly at her home on December 16.
It describes her as the “dearly beloved wife of the late Liam. Loving mother to Debbieleagh, Gavin and Brandon. Devoted granny to Mila and Loxley. Cherished sister of Marie, Philly, Pauline, Donna, Rhonda and Geordie.
“Late of New Barnsley Park. Our Lady of Lourdes Pray for Her.
“Debbie will be loved and missed always by her heartbroken daughter, sons, grandchildren, sisters, brothers and entire family circle.”
Grieving friends have been paying tribute to Ms Burns online.
“Debbie was such a lovely girl,” one wrote.
“So friendly, always greeted you with a smile in the RVH canteen.”
Many social media users have expressed shock and sadness while offering condolences to the dead woman’s family.
Others noted that Ms Burns has been reunited with her “beloved” husband who predeceased her.
“My beautiful friend, thinking of all her devastated family at this heart-breaking time,” one person wrote.
Another posted that “Debbie was a proper legend – like a second mummy to me growing up RIP” alongside broken heart emojis.
A niece also expressed heartache as she said she is “thinking of my family on the loss of my aunt Debbie”.
Sinn Féin councillor Micheal Donnelly also offered his condolences.
“This is absolutely tragic news, and I want to express my heartfelt condolences to this woman’s family and friends,” he said.
“My deepest thoughts and sympathies are with her loved ones as they begin to come to terms with such an unimaginable loss.
“In what will be immensely difficult days ahead, I know the local community will rally around to support the woman’s family and friends.”
On Monday, the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service confirmed a number of appliances were involved in the operation in the Ballymurphy area.
Detective Sergeant Christine Alexander said: “Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service extinguished the blaze but, sadly, a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Police are conducting enquiries into this death, on behalf of the Coroner. At this stage, the death is not being treated as suspicious.”
