A doctor who has appeared on a number of shows across ITV, BBC and Channel 4 is urging people to “stop now” and act so as to avoid having regrets down the line. Dr Rangan Chatterjee is known for starring in the BBC’s Doctor in the House, as well as being a regular guest on This Morning.

The medical expert, who is also an author and podcast host, frequently shares health advice on social media. And in a new post he has told his more than a million Instagram followers of the most common regrets people who are dying have shared.

He said: “Thinking about the end of our lives can be difficult, but so many of us wait until then to reflect on the things we wished we’d done to lead a happier life.

“Even in ancient Stoic philosophy, contemplating mortality – memento mori – was an important part of daily reflection, reminding people to live life fully and to clarify what really mattered. So why don’t you stop NOW, TODAY, and consider what might make you feel happier, helping you avoid too many regrets later in life?”

In a graphic included within the post, he detailed the five most common deathbed regrets he has come across. He said the things people regret the most are: not being brave enough to express themselves and their feelings, not staying in touch with friends, working so hard, not allowing themselves to be happier, and not living a life “true to myself” as opposed to the “life that other people expected of me”.
