Residents in Cheltenham were evacuated this morning following two suspected bombs being handed into the police station this morning, Tuesday, December 17. Officers at Hesters Way Police Station received grenades at around 10.30am.

A cordon was put in place at Hester’s Way, and nearby buildings were evacuated. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team attended the scene, and the items were deemed safe. The cordons have now been removed.

Gloucestershire Police said: “An evacuation took place in the Hester’s Way area of Cheltenham after two suspected grenades were handed in earlier this morning (Tuesday, 17 December). The grenades were handed into Hesters Way Police Station, which is located on Princess Elizabeth Way, at around 10.30 am.

“A cordon was put into place and nearby buildings were evacuated as a safety precaution so that the Explosive Ordnance Disposal could attend and assess the devices. The items were deemed to be safe and the cordons have now been removed. We’d like to thank everyone for their co-operation during this time.”

It comes shortly after a grenade was handed to council officers in Tewkesbury on November 26. Tewkesbury Borough Council has said a member of the public handed in the device, which they had discovered while metal detecting.
