A South Simcoe Police Service officer who was under investigation for discreditable conduct has died, the service announced.

Const. Paul Catling — a 15-year veteran — died on Wednesday.

He had been facing nine counts of discreditable conduct under the Police Services Act laid by Barrie police. The charges stemmed from a sexual assault allegation involving two complainants. A tribunal had been slated for last Thursday.

South Simcoe Police did not disclose the 47-year-old’s cause of death. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

MOBILITY SCOOTER HIT BY SUV

York Regional Police are looking for information after an elderly man driving a mobility scooter was struck by an SUV in Georgina.

According to cops, on Saturday around 12:25 p.m., the elderly man was knocked off his scooter around Woodbine Ave. and Riveredge Dr.

The victim was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, but is now in stable condition. The driver remained at the scene.

Officers are appealing to witnesses who may have dashcam footage and are urging anyone with information to call 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7704.

HAMILTON WOMAN, 35, NABBED IN DOPE PROBE

A slew of community complaints about drugs trafficking has resulted in the arrest of a 35-year-old Hamilton woman.

Cops say Krystal Briand is charged with: Possession for the purpose of trafficking — fentanyl; possession for the purpose of trafficking — methamphetamine; possession for the purpose of trafficking — cocaine; and possession of proceeds of crime under $5000.00

MAN BUSTED IN NIAGARA BANK HEISTS

A St. Catharines man faces charges after a pair of Niagara-area bank heists.

The first robbery was at a CIBC branch in Lincoln on Nov. 21 where a bandit entered the bank armed and demanded money. He fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

On Dec. 9, a male suspect entered TD Canada Trust at 364 Scott St., in St. Catharines.

Again, the man was armed with a gun and demanded cash.

Detectives determined the same culprit was behind both heists.

Isaiah Sharpe, 29, is charged with robbery and other offences.
