Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz was injured against the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night.
Stolarz didn’t return for the start of the second period after making seven saves in the first.
Soon after the opening faceoff in the second, the Leafs’ public relations account posted to X that Stolarz suffered a lower-body injury and would not return to the game.
Stolarz was replaced by Joseph Woll. Prior to the game, Stolarz was leading the NHL with a .928 save percentage.
Toronto led 2-1 after the first period on goals by Max Pacioretty and William Nylander.
Stolarz was beaten at 15:56 by Frank Vatrano during a Ducks power play. Stolarz stretched to his right and was unable to make a stop on a shot by Vatrano from the side boards.
The Leafs, in all likelihood, will have to recall a goalie from the Toronto Marlies. One of Dennis Hildeby or Artur Akhtyamov, who has been excellent for the Marlies in his first professional season in North America, would be in line to get the call.
More to come.
