Dutch speed skater Joy Beune is sliding into the hearts of Playboy readers.

The 25-year-old glamour puss is the cover girl for the famed skin magazine’s Dutch edition’s December issue. According to the mag, the issue is already a sellout, and a reprint is on the presses.

Playboy hit the newsstands just last Thursday.

Beune is the current women’s world champion in the winter sport. And now, the mag’s editor is claiming that this has “never happened before.”

“In the eleven years that Pijper Media has been publishing our magazine, something like this has never happened,” editor-in-chief Niek Stolker told a Dutch media industry website.

“Books are reprinted, but that is not usually the case with magazines.”

Even Beune was taken by the boffo sales her appearance generated.

“That is very nice to hear,” Beune said. “I would not have expected that so many copies would be sold. I expected a lot of criticism, but I only hear nice messages from everyone around me and that they think it’s incredibly cool.”

Ironically, Beune said that when she was first approached by Playboy, she feared she might be “too heavy”.

She became world champion in 2024 and won a gold medal in the 5000 metres in the team pursuit. So far, Olympic hardware has evaded her.

“There were moments when I compared myself to other speed skaters,” Beune said. “They are all super slim and have incredibly toned bodies.

“Then I thought: Maybe I’m too heavy. I need to be as light as possible, that’s how I run the fastest. But that’s a load of nonsense. You have to eat well, you need that energy.”

As for her personal life, Beune is currently off the market and dating fellow speed skating star Kjeld Nuis, 35. The icy twosome have been partnered up since 2019.
