A Bristol pub on a busy main road is set to close its doors forever come the end of the year, with speculation rife that it could be turned into flats.
The Kings Head, which is located on Bridgwater Road in Bedminster Down, is known for being a ‘family friendly pub along the main road up to Bristol Airport, attracting guests from far and wide, as well as local regulars of all ages’. And, while the pub is busy advertising its Sunday carvery, Happy Hours, and more, on its socials, the pub’s team have confirmed that it will close around the New Year.
Responding to comments and queries beneath posts on its Facebook page over the past few days, the team – including landlady Sarah Aston-Davies – confirmed that the pub has a ‘couple of weeks’ before it shuts permanently. Sarah said: “We are open as usual until New Year so we have another couple of weeks before we are shut permanently.
“But we are trying to make the best of the next few weeks now.” Others commented to say that “once doors are closed New Year’s Eve, it will never be a pub again”, with suggestions towards “flats being built” on the site.
This news comes after the pub was put on the market with Savills back in June. With a guide price of £495,000, the two-storey pub was described as boasting a beer garden, as well as a four-bedroom flat on the first floor.
At the time, the venue was being sold on a freehold basis with vacant possession. The original listing is no longer available on the Savills website.
In addition to this, there is reportedly also planning permission for two brand new three bedroom homes to be built on the pub’s car park. Though this land was not included in the pub’s listing with Savills and is believed to have been sold separately. BristolLive has contacted the pub for more information.
Taking to the comments under several of the pub’s recent posts, locals and pubgoers were quick to share their sadness at the news. One said: “This is so sad. I’ve got great memories of the pub back in the day.” While a second said: “Gutted to hear about the pub shitting down.”
The pub team also confirmed that their final Sunday carvery will be taking place on Sunday, December 22. It hosted its final ever karaoke night on December 1 – an event which has been taking place at the pub for the past 12 years.
