A “dangerous and devious paedophile” who subjected an “utterly vulnerable” disabled woman and children to sexual abuse has been handed a 27-year sentence.

Sentencing 55-year-old David John Andrews at Downpatrick Crown Court today, Judge Geoffrey Miller KC said that some of his depraved acts were so horrific and harrowing, he was deliberately not describing them in open court.

He told Andrews, who is from Belfast, that if he was sentencing the charges individually and adding them all up, “the total sentence would be one of several hundred years” but UK law demanded that he take account of totality principles.

Using the so-called ‘catfish’ method, Andrews adopted fake online personas, including that of a teenage boy, to deceive and manipulate his victims.

The victims, whom he contacted through social media platforms, were mostly young girls in Great Britain.
