Two key roads just off a motorway junction in Bristol will close today (Monday, December 9) as work to repair potholes continues. York Street and Sevier Street, in St Werburghs, will close until 5pm today for resurfacing works.

The closure is part of a resurfacing scheme on the Sevier Street junction to improve the roads, located just off junction 3 of the M32. Sevier Street closed from its junction with York Street to its junction with Mina Road on Friday (December 6).

York Street will close in its entirety from Mina Road to Sevier Street, where the latter will also close from the junction with the B4052 and Magdalene Place to York Street. Bristol City Council listed in its notice that the work is for carriageway repair works, whilst One.Network adds that it is to repair potholes.

The notice said: “This notice is required to enable carriageway repair works, to be executed on or near the road, and will be valid for a maximum period of five days, which commence on [Monday] December 9. However, the closure may not be implemented for the whole of the period, but only as necessitated by the works (which is anticipated to be between 8am to 5pm on December 9).”

York Street acts as a bypass road leading towards Eastgate Retail Park. For drivers coming off at junction 3, it can also act as a bypass towards junction 2 of the motorway in the event of traffic.

A diversion will be in place during the day which will see drivers travel through Ashley Down and Horfield before looping back through Eastville and to St Werburghs. Starting on the west side of the closure, drivers will follow the B4052 Ashley Hill onto Ashley Down Road and the A38 Gloucester Road until reaching Horfield.

The diversion will then follow the B4469 Muller Road, turning onto Glenfrome Road and onto James Street, reaching the east side of the closure. The diversion can also be followed vise versa.
