Reverend Richard Coles has undoubtedly charmed both viewers and fellow campmates on this year’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!. But he previously feared that one health issue would get in the way of this.

Before entering the jungle, Richard confessed his fear about his snoring, worrying about ‘everybody wanting to kill [him]’ over the noisy sleeping habit. In a conversation with the Mirror, he said: “I’d be worried about the snoring actually, because my partner is not a fan of that at all.

“He made me have this thing. It’s like a boxer’s gum shield put in to stop snoring. But after a while, you just feel it’s just getting a little bit Frankenstein.” In the same interview, the Have I Got News For You contributor also discussed the extreme steps he had taken to prepare for the tough competition.

Remarkably, this included eating 5,000 calories a day on a cruise before embarking on the very lean jungle diet. “I would like to say that I’ve been lowering my calorie intake to prepare for that, but that’s not worked out so far. I’ve been trying not to look at nature programs about the horrors of Australia,” he reportedly joked.

“I am also worried about finding a fear I didn’t know I had yet and going to pieces on television in front of a koala or wombat or something.” Despite many campmates dreading the notorious eating trials, Richard admitted that his culinary curiosity was less restrained: “I like eating weird things anyway, so I have a rule of, whenever I go anywhere, is to eat the local delicacy, which is sometimes not great.”

However, the scarcity of food in the jungle was seen as more of a problem for Richard, as he added: “I’m never more than 12 feet away from a sandwich, so that’s going to be quite tricky.”
