Bristol Rovers have announced that they have already sold over 1,800 tickets for this Saturday’s League One game away at Birmingham City, making it set to be the Gas’ biggest away following of the season so far.

Online sales are set to conclude at 10am today (December 9) but supporters can still purchase tickets in-store until midday on Thursday (December 12).

This weekend’s trip to St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park will be the first league meeting between the two clubs for almost 30 years with the most recent clash coming in the League Cup in 2015, a 2-1 victory for Blues at the Mem.

Birmingham were the heavy pre-season favourites for promotion on the back of their relegation from the Championship last campaign and, although they aren’t currently at the summit, are still widely backed to end the season top of the pile or, at the very least, in the automatic promotion spots.

Rovers’ biggest away following so far this season was for the narrow 1-0 defeat at Reading back in October where 1,608 Gasheads made the relatively short trip. However, this weekend’s game in the Second City is expected to trump that total.

It will be the Gas’ first game in 11 days after their home meeting with Bolton Wanderers on Saturday was postponed due to safety concerns amid Storm Darragh.

Rovers were beaten 3-0 last time out at Leyton Orient in what was their worst performance, in the league at least, of the season so far.

Although it will be the Gas’ first time playing Birmingham away in a league fixture for over 30 years, they have played at what is now known as St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park a couple of times in modern times having faced Blues there in the FA Cup in 2014 while also coming up against Coventry City away from home twice in the 2019/20 campaign when the Sky Blues were forced to play their home games in B9.
