Two people have been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection to the shooting death of a 20-year-old security guard at a central Edmonton apartment complex Friday.

Officers responded to the 12:30 a.m. report of a shooting at the Central McDougall building near 106 Street and 107 Avenue and found the security guard in the stairwell. He was taken to hospital by paramedics where he later died.

Police identified the security guard Saturday as Harshandeep Singh, 20.

“The EPS doesn’t typically release the name of a deceased individual unless the death has been confirmed to be a homicide,” said EPS homicide Staff Sgt. Rob Bilawey, in a Saturday news release. “However, in this instance, we are releasing his name for an investigative purpose and in an effort to alleviate public safety concerns in relation to Mr. Singh’s unfortunate death.”

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Police said they do not believe anyone else was involved in the shooting, and a weapon was seized during the arrest.

Evan Rain, 30, and Judith Saulteaux, 30, are charged with first-degree murder.

Homicide detectives continue to investigate and are asking anyone with information to contact police at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
