Prince Harry is set to spend Christmas at his home in California with Meghan Markle and his two children, Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three.

The Duke of Sussex, 40, will throw himself into the festive celebration as his children are “at one of the most magical stages of childhood”, according to a former royal commentator.

Jenny Bond, former BBC royal correspondent, said: “Their kids are at one of the most magical stages of childhood when everything is spine-tinglingly new and exciting, and Santa is indisputably real.

She added: “I think there is still a lot of the child in Harry as he was always the playful, mischievous one – and I’m sure he throws himself into Christmas fun with Archie and Lilibet.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved to California after they announced they would step back as senior working royals in January 2020.

The royal pair is thought to not be on speaking terms with King Charles, which means the Californian-based couple will miss out on a Christmas invite to Sandringham.

Bond suggests that despite this, the youngest son of the King will enjoy the celebration with his wife.

She said: “Meghan strikes me as a real home-maker and I’m sure everything in Montecito will be exquisitely tasteful, but also child friendly, because Meghan and Harry focus so much on their children and family life.”

Bond added: “Estranged as Harry and Meghan are from so many members of their respective families, Christmas must be more about friends than family.

Bond implies that the family of four will spend the day with Meghan’s mother.

The former suits actress has a close relationship with her mum.

“Doria is a constant in their lives, and Meghan spoke recently about how she loved having her mum nearby.”

Bond told OK!: “I think they will join forces to create a wonderful, sunny Christmas Day with fabulous food, maybe some friends and lots of games and music.

“In California, they can have a bit of a pool party to work off the food and have some fun – all very informal and very different from the Christmas festivities at Sandringham that Harry will remember.”

The Royal Family traditionally gathers at Sandringham House in Norfolk for Christmas, where they join the monarch on a public walk to Mary Magdalene Church.

In addition, Queen Camilla has invited her children and grandchildren to the festive celebrations this year.
