The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for today covering the south west as Storm Darragh continues to batter the UK. It comes as strong winds and rain associated with the storm will continue throughout most of the morning before gradually easing later today (December 8).
The weather forecaster has said gusts of 35-45mph are more widely expected inland today but locally could gust in excess of 50 mph, especially over higher ground. Around coasts, gusts of 50-60 mph are expected, perhaps locally nearer 70 mph during the morning.
This may cause disruption to travel, with difficult driving conditions likely. However, the forecaster predicts that winds will very slowly ease from the north through the day.
It follows a rare red weather warning for wind on Saturday (December 7) as Storm Darragh battered the UK and brought gusts of up to 90mph. The region saw heavy rain and winds of up to 90mph, causing trees and power cables to fall down, and flooding on the roads.
The forecast for the south west today says it will not be as stormy as yesterday but it will still be very windy. It will also be cloudy for most of the day with some showers predicted but there could be sunny spells at times in the west. Here is the full weather forecast for today according to the Met Office:
Today:
Storm Darragh will gradually move away today, however it will remain very windy, with gales possible in places, especially around coasts. Often cloudy with the odd shower possible but sunny spells at times in the west. Feeling rather cold. Maximum temperature 9C.
Tonight:
