A curry house on the outskirts of Bristol has been voted the area’s best by our readers. Last month, we asked you to help in our search for Bristol’s best curry house.

Restaurants and takeaways across the city were nominated and we then put the top three to a vote. And, with nearly 3,000 votes cast, Arjee Bhajee on Soundwell Road has been crowned winner after receiving 1,741 votes.

It was followed by Curry House on Bath Road (954), with Tamarind on Badminton Road (122) taking the third spot.

The Arjee Bhajee describes itself as an “authentic Indian kitchen” and our own food critic Mark Taylor gave it a five star review back in 2021. The curry house was also crowned the best in the South West at the 2023 Just Eat Restaurant Awards.

The restaurant has an average rating of 4.4 on Google, having received more than 300 reviews.

One reviewer wrote: “Great food, both to eat in and take away.

“Their menu is very well labelled for those with dietary needs, and there are plenty of good veggie and vegan options.”

And another one said: “Food is delicious, excellent service. Easily my favourite place for a takeaway.”

Last month, we revealed that a pub in Bristol city centre serves the city’s best Sunday roast, according to our readers. After more than 700 votes were cast, The Famous Royal Navy Volunteer on King Street was the clear winner after receiving 310 votes.

We have also found the city’s best greasy spoon according to our readers. After nearly a thousand votes were cast, Abbots Kitchen on Dundry Road, in Whitchurch, South Bristol, became winner after receiving 432 votes.

We also asked our readers what the best fish and chip shop in Bristol is and, after just over thousand votes were cast, Marios Fish Bar on Pool Road, Kingswood, was the clear winner after receiving 586 votes.
