West Ham say striker Michail Antonio has been involved in a traffic accident. A statement from the club: “West Ham United can confirm striker Michail Antonio has today been involved in a road traffic accident.

“The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the club are with Michail, his family and friends at this time. The club will issue an update in due course.”

It is not known how serious the crash was or if Antonio, aged 34, is injured. The Hammers were not in action on Saturday and host Wolves on Monday evening.

Other football clubs quickly rallied round to offer support. Birmingham City said: “The thoughts of everyone at Birmingham City are with Michail, his family & friends at this time. “

West Bromwich Albion said: “All of us at West Bromwich Albion are sending our love to Michail, his family and everyone at West Ham United.” Ipswich Town said: “We’re sending our best wishes to Michail, his family and friends.” Sheffield Wednesday added: “Our thoughts are with Michail, his family, friends and everyone at West Ham.”

Emergency services have not confirmed the exact location of the crash, however. West Ham United have released a club statement following the incident today (December 7). It is understood that Michail also lives in the Chigwel
