The Christmas Market in Broadmead will not open today due to Storm Darragh. There have been high winds and rain since the storm hit in the early hours of today.

In a statement on Facebook, the market organisers said: “Due to the severe weather conditions caused by Storm Darragh, the Bristol Christmas Market will be closed today for the safety of all visitors and staff. We plan to reopen tomorrow as normal.

“Please keep an eye on our social media pages for any further updates. We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.”

The storm has caused havoc across the region. A number of flights from Bristol Airport have been cancelled and red Met Office weather warning remains in place across the South West with wind speeds expected to hit 90mph.

Some flights from Bristol are delayed while others have been cancelled completely. People have been warned to only travel if it’s absolutely necessary.

Bristol Airport said in a post on X: “Storm Darragh – The Met Office has issued a red weather warning for the Bristol channel. High winds are expected and will continue through the weekend.

Millions have been warned to stay indoors, thousands are without power and trains across the south west have been cancelled as the Government’s “risk to life” alert brought on by Storm Darragh came into force.

The emergency alert came into effect at 1am on Saturday for people covered by the Met Office’s rare red warning for wind in parts of Wales and south-west England.
