The Bristol Rovers game against the Bolton Wanderers has been postponed due to safety concerns as a result of Storm Darragh. The match was due to kick off at 3pm today (December 7), however, Bristol Rovers announced this morning that it has been called off.
In an update posted at 8.30am, the club said the worsening weather conditions have brought a “significant threat” to the safety of those due to attend The Memorial Stadium. It added that a new date for the game will be confirmed in due course.
Anyone who bought tickets for today’s match will be able to use them for the rearranged match, however, those who wish to have a refund are being urged to contact the ticket office. The club said: “Bristol Rovers FC can confirm today’s Sky Bet League One fixture against Bolton Wanderers has been postponed.
“While the club had been hopeful of proceeding with today’s fixture as planned, worsening conditions overnight caused by Storm Darragh have brought an increased, significant threat to the safety of all due to attend The Memorial Stadium, as highlighted by repeated emergency alerts from the UK Government.
“Therefore in consultation and agreement with the EFL, local safety advisory group and Bolton Wanderers FC, today’s game has been postponed for safety reasons. A new date for the rearranged fixture will be confirmed in due course.
“Tickets purchased for today’s fixture will be valid for the rearranged time and date but any supporter wishing to process a refund can do so by contacting the Ticket Office. Any required refunds must be processed before kick-off in the rearranged fixture.”
Hundreds of Wanderers fans had been planning to make the trip to Memorial Stadium early this morning but as Storm Darragh causes havoc on the roads, a number of safety warnings have been put in place.
It comes amid a rare life-threatening red weather warning issued for the area today by the Met Office. Storm Darragh is set to bring damaging winds of up to 90mph.
